Seminar : Bio Inspired Computing 09 February 2007
On Friday, 9th Feb. 2007, IEEE-VESIT members were simply awestruck! Yes, the future of computing was presented to them and it is inspired by the very thing we see around us daily – Nature.
Prof. J. Gokhale, HOD of Computer Engineering Department of VESIT, gave an insight into the next generation computing and problem – solving, ‘Bio-inspired Computing’. He started off to an attentive crowd with the introduction of the topic, claiming its basic theme “To Mimic Life”. As he presented examples of the world around us that can be tapped for number-crunching, students were simply amazed. From cockroaches who survive nuclear holocausts to lizards who can balance their weight on walls, everything around us has answers for our present day problems. A detailed analysis of ants made us see how they can work with maximum efficiency and be the source of inspiration for dynamic routers. A look on the use of neurons by a recent experiment on leeches showed the students that our brain actually handles about 100 GB/sec! The topic of DNA computing was also touched in the seminar. Students actively participating in the question-answer session which included questions like how we can implement dynamic routers. This brought to end an inspiring and fascinating seminar. |
