IEEE Identity Standards specify how the IEEE name, Master Brand and other organizational symbols are used in all official materials and communications from the IEEE, both print and electronic. These Standards eventually will cover a broad range of identity issues including references to the IEEE in copywriting and other messages.

The Standards provide specifications for use of the IEEE Master Brand described as the IEEE logo ("kite") followed by the letters I-E-E-E. Neither the single logo ("kite") and nor other combinations of the logo and letters are to be used as the symbol of the IEEE.The document is in PDF format, which can be viewed online or downloaded and printed.

The following Appendices address several current issues:

  1. Master Brand Size Relationship to Other Logos/Identifiers

  2. Magazine Covers
    a. Magnified Master Brand on Magazine Covers

  3. Conference Materials

  4. Stationery Templates for Volunteers

The handy IEEE Master Brand Reference Guide also is available for download as a PDF. It is a two-page document with tips on how to use the IEEE Master Brand correctly. If you would like a printed copy of the Identity Standards, please contact the IEEE Intellectual Property Rights Office at
